Second Saturday Art Opening : The Smoking Mirror
Join us for the Second Saturday Art Walk on St. Claude
The Smoking Mirror
-is a new body of work from Artist and Curator PRAXAS, compiling nearly 4 years of work since the Spring of 2015. More commonly referred to by his name Kyle Patrick, although sometimes KP, or Pibe (peebay), or Jockamo, or GhostGoneRogue, or Motha Roux, or a host of unmentioned or yet elicited masks of character, -this elusive and incessant name changing over the years mirrors the same flux of style, concept and vision which the Artist has procured in repertoire. And this new series of yet exhibited works demonstrates such a range and progression of style, technique and phantasm, that the personal evolution of the Artist becomes palpable as one peruses the complex narrative of work on display.
The Smoking Mirror is a 10 piece chronicle on Severity and Mercy, played out in a tribe of ghostly ancestral characters, which assume symbolic roles for the sake of insinuating self-awakening. There is a transformative process taking place from painting to painting as you move throughout the gallery, akin to an Alchemical manuscript denoting color, shape, and repeating characters –to uncover hidden meanings wherein each work is fulfilled in the reflection of another. The often veiled method of these riddles hearkens to an archaic sanctity, a primitive impulse, a romance of Flora and Fauna, and sensuality with life and death revealed in allegory. Some of the works are subtle and still, floating in an ambient void, while others rupture in a frenzy of psychedelic tapestries, -weaving anthropomorphic narratives using birds, insects, flowers and other wildlife among cascading geometric forms.
The Smoking Mirror is a solo exhibition of new works by PRAXAS completed in December 2018, in association with The Dragonfly.
